You don’t have to redeem your Velocity Points for flights, although we highly recommend you do it at least once.

Here is our guide to using the Points you’ve racked up.

Flights already sorted? Don’t have a holiday planned anytime soon? Not big on flying but have a heap of Velocity Points sitting idle? Cue this article. Velocity has a range of reward options for you to choose from and depending on how you like to roll you can redeem them all in one go or slowly eke them out and make them last. Here’s how:

1. The Velocity Rewards Store

If you haven’t acquainted yourself with our Rewards Store then you should. With products changing regularly you could snag yourself anything from a SodaStream to an Apple Watch. There’s also the option to redeem your Velocity Points for gift vouchers for a range of retailers and department stores. Myer and David Jones top the list in terms of popularity, but our Rewards Store also offers JB Hi-Fi, Dymocks, Kmart, Bunnings and even Gelato Messina vouchers (we have more but didn’t want to overwhelm you).

If travel accessories are your jam you could pick up the latest Bose noise-cancelling headphones, a Lonely Planet guidebook or some luggage from American Tourister.

Then of course you have the money-can-probably-buy-but-it’s-best-paid-in-Points section of the Rewards Store – Virgin Limited Edition – where you can use your Velocity Points to pay for a stay at Sir Richard Branson’s safari game reserve in South Africa Ulusaba, or The Lodge, his luxury Swiss chalet.

2. BP Pay with Points

Fancy the idea of putting your Points towards everyday essentials? Our partner BP introduced the Pay with Points option so our members could use their hard-earned Velocity Points to redeem and save when filling up or when stopping by to grab an on-the-go snack. You can read the exact guide on how to set up your BP Pay with Points^ redemption here but essentially once you’ve set a Velocity PIN and nominated your redemption amount (e.g. 1,667 Velocity Points for $10 off) you’re away. Just make sure you keep your Velocity membership card in the car!

3. Car hire

Speaking of cars, if your next holiday involves a road trip you can redeem your Velocity Points for car hire with our partner Europcar. With vehicles available for pick up in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Belgium, or Switzerland you’re pretty much set. The minimum number of Points required to redeem is an easily achievable 4,000 Velocity Points and booking is simple.

4. Velocity Hotels

Don’t need a car at the other end but need a roof over your head? Cue Velocity Hotels. With over 550,000 hotel properties around the world you can choose to use your Velocity Points for something uber fancy (a night at the 5-star Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo perhaps?) or an apartment where you can settle in for the week. Again, you just need a minimum 4,000 Velocity Points to be able to redeem and then you can choose the Points + Pay option.

5. Onsport

This one may not be as well-known when it comes to Velocity’s rewards, but our partner Onsport allows you to not only earn 5 Points per $1 spent, but also pay with Velocity Points when you checkout online. With the world’s biggest sports brands on offer you could use your Velocity Points for new season activewear, exercise equipment or fitness gadgets.

BONUS: Upgrades

Despite the fact this technically involves flying we thought we would sneak it in anyway. If you’ve already got your flights sorted but fancy the idea of sitting up the pointy end of the plane you could use your Velocity Points to upgrade. Entry-level and Silver Velocity members can upgrade on Virgin Australia domestic or short-haul international flights, whilst Gold and Platinum Velocity members can also upgrade on Virgin Australia long-haul international flights.

  • Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions apply. The Points prices displayed are correct as at 20 April 2018 and are subject to change. Upgrades are subject to availability, and seats are limited and may not be available at peak times or on all flights. Taxes, fees and surcharges are payable at the time of booking and will vary depending on carrier, city pair, fare class date and time of booking. All payments made on the internet or on the phone via debit/credit card are subject to a payment surcharge between 0.6% to 1.3% of the total value of the card transaction (capped at $40 for domestic and $70 for international, per passenger per booking). Full terms and conditions at velocityfrequentflyer.com. unless otherwise stated

Use 1,667 of your Velocity Points to get $10 off your purchase. The maximum equivalent dollar value which can be set as a Pay With Points is $60.00 which equates to 10,000 Velocity Points.
