Get something better from your next holiday than a fridge magnet

Yes, even if it's a REALLY nice fridge magnet).

It's time to increase your luggage allowance, because buying stuff abroad is an easy way to earn extra Velocity Points.

Keen to come back from your next holiday with more than just a pile of souvenirs you may or may not ever look at again? Well, we’ll let you in on a secret – one that will make you feel way less guilty about buying that expensive Icelandic puffer vest you swear you’ll use all the time, but definitely won’t because you live in Cairns.

Meet Global Wallet® – your new pocket pal that will earn you Velocity Points on the pound, baht or yen (and seven other supported currencies) you spend while using the card overseas. So even if you end up splurging on things you’d never buy at home, you’ll at least have some Velocity Points to put towards your next adventure.

So what exactly is Global Wallet®?

Global Wallet® is a reloadable Visa Prepaid Travel card and your Velocity membership card all rolled into one. You top it up with your own money before or during your travels and use it exactly like you would a normal debit card anywhere that accepts Visa (that’s, like, 30 million locations worldwide FYI). But there’s one thing that sets Global Wallet® apart from other prepaid travel cards – and that’s for every $1 you spend using the card overseas (in the Aussie dollar equivalent), you’ll earn two Velocity Points*. Proof that it’s good to be different.

How does it work?

It’s actually super simple – you load Global Wallet® with any amount up to a maximum of $25,000 Aussie dollars (hello big spender) via bank transfer or BPAY before you travel and then convert your AUD into foreign currency. There are ten different foreign currencies to choose from and you can have as many different wallets available as you like at the same time – ideal if you’re lucky enough to be doing some serious continent-hopping.

When you touch down in your destination, you’ll be able to use your Global Wallet® to withdraw cash from ATMs (withdrawals don’t earn Velocity Points though, so choose your amounts wisely) or swipe/insert/tap away on purchases ‘til your heart’s content. Well, until the money runs out anyway… That said, you can always add more funds to your card if your budget’s blown by day three.

Why should I get one?

Okay, so, as well as earning you more Velocity Points on overseas spending than any other Aussie Prepaid Travel card, Global Wallet® is also your budgeting BFF.

You can load the exact amount you’ve set aside for your trip(s) and lock in exchange rates before you go, too, so you know just how much coin you’ve got in your pocket at all times in each local currency. Plus, you’ll save a heap on foreign exchange fees^, because you’ll be spending like the locals in the local currency.

Global Wallet® is really, really secure, too. It isn’t linked to your bank account in any way, so if it gets lost or stolen during your trip, all you need to do is just block your card using the Global Wallet® app. And if it turns up under a pile of beach towels six days later (classic), you can unblock it using the app too. Even better, if you’re super organised, you can order a supplementary card before you travel to store in a secure place for those emergency situations so you can keep spending if you do happen to lose your primary card.

Sold. How do I sign up?

Easy. If you don’t already have a Global Wallet® enabled membership card, we can hook you up with one at any time. Just log into your Velocity account and head to the Order a Card tab.

Your card should be with you within 14 working days and, once it lands, you’ll need to activate it at We’ll ask you (nicely) to fill out your details, set up and password and PIN, and verify your identity. You’ll need at least three forms of ID, so now’s probably a good time to check you didn’t leave your passport in that suitcase you just gave to the op shop. We also suggest you download the Global Wallet® app. too – it makes transferring your AUD funds into different foreign currency wallets super easy. You can drag and drop the order you want your wallets to appear in and quickly exchange money in seconds. It also helps you keep track of your transactions (so you can see just how many margaritas were ordered after dinner…).

Oh, and just one final point – Global Wallet® is a breeze to use. Zero fees to activate and load with bank transfer, maximum ease when you travel. See the PDS for full fees associated with the product.
